W
ho is Rebecca?
Rebecca is an association between art writers Jane Boyer and Becky Hunter, providing freelance writing services for arts professionals.
What writing services do you offer?
Drawing on our complementary areas of expertise, we write press releases, catalogue essays, artist statements, business texts and web copy for visual artists, designers and craftspeople, galleries and arts organizations.
Who will write my text?
It’s entirely up to you. While Jane and Becky do collaborate on texts, it is usual for the client to look at both writers’ portfolios and profiles, using those to make an informed decision on whom to contact regarding a commission.
What are your rates?
You may download Rebecca’s schedule of fees and terms in PDF format, or contact Jane Boyer or Becky Hunter via email with Quote Request in the subject line.

What is your availability?
Rebecca can usually schedule your project start date within one month of your initial contact.  This will give both us and you time to prepare and gather required information to start your project. We are happy for you to contact us with short-notice requests, however as we pride ourselves on the quality of our work, we may not always be able to accommodate.
Please note, Rebecca is a busy association, if you don’t respond within one week of receiving your estimated project start date, or if you don’t send requested materials (such as images or previous statements) by the agreed dates, the start and end date of your project will be pushed back.
Where are you located? Do I need to live nearby to engage your services?
Rebecca has a global reach. Jane Boyer lives and works between London (UK) and Bordeaux (France), and Becky Hunter is located in Philadelphia (USA). While a studio visit is desirable for in-depth articles, most of Rebecca’s services (such as press releases, business writing, and artist statements) can be discussed and commissioned via email, phone, Dropbox or Skype. We provide MS Word or PDF documents for proofing, and have the facility to receive, edit and send high-resolution images.
How long will my job take to complete?
Just like your art or creative business, each commissioned text is unique. Rebecca will provide an estimate of the start and end date for your job, however an exact timeline cannot be guaranteed due to the nature of the work. Usually, you will receive a project summary for approval, followed by a first draft, which you are encouraged to think over. The second draft is usually final.  If you are working to a deadline be sure you contact us well in advance of that deadline to ensure quality and efficiency.
Once the commissioned writing work is complete, who owns the text?
By law, copyright remains with the writer, even after the job has been paid for. Each commission is written for a specific purpose and priced accordingly - for example an essay for publication in a printed exhibition catalogue, or a statement to use on your portfolio website and for competition entries etc. Permission and credit is required to use the text for a new purpose.
What exactly is included in the quoted price?
Depending on the nature of the project, Rebecca may conduct research, travel to view art or visit libraries, or purchase assets, as well as producing drafts of your text.  Each quote will detail costs for your project.
Please see Rebecca’s official schedule of fees and terms for more details.
Do you require a deposit before work starts?
Yes. Rebecca requires a 15% deposit alongside a signed contract before work begins. After the first draft is approved, the next 35% of the payment is required, followed by the final 50% which must be paid in full 15 days after your project’s completion.
Once we’ve decided to work together, how do I submit a payment?
If you’re commissioning work from outside of Rebecca’s countries of origin, the cheapest and most convenient method of payment is via Paypal. You may also choose to pay by bank transfer or cheque. Specific details will be included on your contract.
What information should I provide alongside my project outline?
It’s great to know as much about your practice or organization as possible. Other helpful things include an indication of the text’s purpose and target audience; examples of writing that are in a style or tone that you identify with; notes on language or concepts that you do not wish to be associated with; images relevant to your art or design practice; quotes from supporters of your work; and an idea of the required word limit or budget.
May I contact you with further questions?
Of course! After reviewing our profiles, please contact either Jane Boyer or Becky Hunter and we will do our best to answer your questions.
